“Washington is under increasing pressure following reports about US bugging devices in EU buildings in Brussels and the United States” (Deutsche Welle, July 2, 2013). French President Hollande, in relation to the U.S.-EU trade deal, stated, “There can be no negotiations or transactions…until we have obtained guarantees [related to privacy]… for all of the European Union” (ibid.). And German Chancellor Merkel has compared the spy allegations to Cold War tactics (Der Spiegel, July 1, 2013). While the EU is frustrated by U.S. spying, “German security officials are now able to pull up personal data of internet and cell phone users with a couple of clicks… Opponents fear that it will allow German intelligence agencies to collect private data on a large scale and without sufficient reason” (Deutsche Welle, July 1, 2013). History records the consequences of such actions when surveillance from Nazi organizations led to the deaths of more than six million Jews and others in WWII. Moses prophesied of a future nation who will punish Israel (many modern English-speaking and Western European nations), “The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar…as swift as the eagle flies…a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favour to the young” (Deuteronomy 28:49-50). Germany (ancient Assyria) is prophesied to be the rod of God’s anger (Isaiah 10:5) and will ultimately form the world dominating empire called the Beast, before repenting and being blessed by God after Christ’s return (Isaiah 19:24). The Israelite-descended Netherlands is one of the EU’s six founding members. Yet, the Netherlands is now criticizing the EU for its “creeping powers”—amassing power to itself while eroding national sovereignty of member nations (EU Observer, June 22, 2013). While Dutch opposition to the EU grows, Croatia has become the 28th EU member nation (Reuters, July 1, 2013). Mainly Catholic Croatia, mired in recession, hopes for economic benefits by joining the EU. However, it does not plan to join the common currency anytime soon (ibid.). For decades, the Church of God has understood that prophecies in Daniel and Revelation refer to an end-time Beast power composed of ten kingdoms or nations. These nations will give their power over to one leader (Revelation 17:12-13). This configuration of European nations may have five “toes” in Western Europe and five more in Eastern Europe (Daniel 2:41-44). Currently, ten of the 28 EU nations are in Eastern Europe. Yet, a number of EU states in Western Europe that are resisting EU efforts to gain more power are Israelite nations. The final formation of the Beast power will be interesting to watch in the light of Bible prophecy. New research reveals that pigs fed a diet of genetically modified (GMO) corn and soybeans had significant increases in stomach inflammation. GMO-fed females had more than twice the rate of inflammation than did non-GMO-fed females, while males had four times the rate of inflammation, with all other factors controlled (Reuters, June 11, 2013). To date, the plant science industry studies show no significant health risks related to GMO consumption in animals. However, this independent study was conducted by researchers in Australia and published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Organic Systems (ibid.). Pig research is done because much of pig anatomy and physiology (especially related to the digestive system) corresponds to that of humans. Credible research examining health risks of GMOs on humans is still lacking. However, one must wonder what the impact of inserting genetic information from bacteria and other species into grain or plant DNA can have on the human body. GMOs are developed to make crops resistant to pesticides and pests—allowing for greater crop yields and increased revenue, especially for seed manufacturers. When God created plant life on day three of creation, He made its seeds to reproduce after its kind “and God saw that it was good” (Genesis 1:11-13, KJV). In man’s greed and pride, he has foolishly determined he can create plants and animals more perfectly than God. The sobering thing is that pride always goes before destruction (Proverbs 16:18).—Scott Winnail, Daniel Bennett and Annette Wright
New archaeological research from Kent, England, shows people were travelling to and from Britain 1,000 years before Christ (The Times, June 5, 2013). Research measuring strontium levels in teeth enamel (absorbed from drinking water while enamel is being formed in childhood) demonstrated that immigrants came from Sweden and Norway, as well as the Eastern Mediterranean, Spain and North Africa, to England (ibid.). Some also left Britain, lived abroad, and returned several years later (ibid.). Spain and Gaul were areas the Israelites and even the Apostles travelled to (Romans 15:24, 28). The Church of God (and other sources) has long understood that Israelites migrated to the British Isles and were visited there by the Apostles. While critics ridicule these ideas, mounting evidence from DNA and chromosomal studies, including this new study on isotopes in teeth, confirm the travelling nature of the inhabitants of ancient Britain, including travel from regions where the Israelites were known to be. The Mother Church of the Anglican Communion, or Church of England, has become known for its increasing departure from tradition and Scripture itself. Last week, the Church took advantage of the “summer solstice to recruit new Christians to ‘pagan’ churches. The established Church is using its ‘fresh expressions’ initiative, where a new type of church is developed, to encourage congregations to meet outdoors and use pagan-style rituals” (The Times, June 22, 2013). “The Rev Steve Hollinghurst, who trains evangelists for the Church Army, said: ‘There is a growing interest in spirituality outside religion, and with that, paganism and the New Age.’ He said that the aim was to explore the idea of ‘pagan churches with Christ at the centre’” and to rediscover “the immanent God as Mother and Father” (ibid.). But what does the Bible say about having pagan churches with Christ at the center and God as mother and father? God warned the Israelites before entering the Promised Land, “do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods…” (Deuteronomy 12:30-31). God also warned the Israelites that because of their idolatry and rejection of Him, He would bring destruction upon them (Deuteronomy 28:20; 30:15-20; Jeremiah 13:10; 25:6). This warning still applies today! To understand where our nations are headed when professing Christian church leaders promote the worship of Christ through pagan practices, review our booklet entitled Satan’s Counterfeit Christianity.
America’s National Security Agency’s (NSA) secret Prism spy project has drawn national and international criticism. A recent interview revealed that Germany is the NSA’s most watched EU nation (EU Observer, June 10, 2013). This information has taken top German officials by surprise and stirred animosity toward the U.S.A. (EU Observer, June 12, 2013). One German leader noted “This looks to me like it could become one of the biggest data privacy scandals ever” (ibid.). Information leaked on the Prism program suggests Britain and the Netherlands colluded with the NSA, further outraging Europeans (EU Observer, June 11, 2013). The total scope and involvement of the program remains to be seen. One thing appears certain though: more world leaders are losing the trust of their people, and many Israelite nations are being demeaned in the eyes of their allies. God prophesied about the end-time Israelite nations, “She will chase her lovers, but not overtake them… I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers” (Hosea 2:7, 10). God further noted that these former “lovers,” and also nations who hate Israel, will watch as God reveals the sins and nakedness of the Israelite nations (Ezekiel 16:35-37), to nations that include Assyria/Germany (Hosea 7:11; 8:9; 11:5), because Israelite-descended nations have rejected God and His laws (Hosea 4:1, 6-7).—Scott Winnail, Rod McNair, Justin Ridgeway and Deborah Lincoln-Strange
Recent reports highlight a growing problem of lawlessness in the U.S. State Department. The department, “tried to cover up several crimes committed… Some of the allegations are against then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s security detail who allegedly hired prostitutes, a U.S. ambassador accused of trolling public parks for paid sex and a security official in Beirut committing sexual assaults on foreign nationals” (Fox News, June 11, 2013). In addition, there are “allegations that US security contractors in Baghdad bought narcotics from an ‘underground drug ring’…” (Telegraph, June 12, 2013). Today, many do not realize that the U.S.A. and many other English-speaking nations can trace their history to the biblical Israelite tribes that God instructed to set an example of character and obedience to His laws, so they could be a blessing to all nations. Because the leaders of the ancient nation of Israel “did evil in the sight of the LORD” (1 Kings 15:34), the nation drifted into sinful practices and was punished by God in a national captivity by the Assyrians (2 Kings 17:5-23). That same God expects the nation with the motto, In God We Trust, to set an example of righteous conduct today! If the modern nations of Israel fail to return to God and repent of their sins, they, too, are prophesied to be destroyed and taken into captivity, just like their ancient ancestors (Hosea 8-10). “Germans might not know it, but they desperately need the moral guidance of a re-instated royal family,” says “the great-great grandson of the last Kaiser, Prince Philip Kiril of Prussia” (The Local, June 6, 2013). Prince Philip, who is a Protestant vicar, “believes that a royal family with divine right conferred by God could offer Germany what it is missing.” The prince comments, “‘I think young Germans wants something they can orientate towards… When a leader answers to himself, and not God, an atheist-led country ends in disaster. Look at Hitler, Pol Pot and Stalin’… Religion, ‘tames the selfishness naturally present in all of us’” (ibid.) A recent news poll reported that a third of German 18-24-year-olds desire another Kaiser (ibid.). Interestingly, Germany will soon begin reconstruction of the Berlin Palace, a former home to German monarchs (Deutsche Welle, June 12, 2013). The Roman Catholic Church has long encouraged a return to religion in Europe. At a 2010 Vatican conference, German Cardinal Walter Kasper urged, “If Europe wants to have a future again, it must first and foremost renew its Christian roots” (Catholic News Agency, May 20, 2010). Pope Francis recently called for “combin[ing] Church teaching with socio-economic development” on a global scale (AsiaNews.it, May 25, 2013). Bible prophecy reveals that the final European “Beast” will be backed by an influential church (see Revelation 13 and 17). Monarchies run deep in Europe and are not soon forgotten. It will be interesting to watch and see if God allows a German monarch to again lead a short-lived “new world order.” For more information, read our insightful article, “Bible Prophecy and the European Dream.”
An Australian nurse pleaded guilty to the worst mass murder in New South Wales history. In 2011, he set fire in the nursing home he worked at—apparently to cover up his theft of drugs. The rapidly burning fire killed eleven residents and caused “grievous bodily harm” to eight others (9News, May 27, 2013). Questioned by police, he said, “It was Satan telling [me] to do it” (ibid.). Most “experts” seek to explain hideous crimes from a purely physiological and psychological perspective, but Christians know that there is more going on behind the scenes. There is a real spirit world which includes a multitude of evil and bitter demons led by Satan the devil (Revelation 12:4, 9), “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2) and the “accuser of [the] brethren” (Revelation 12:10). Christ called Satan the “ruler of this world” and a “murderer” (John 14:30; 8:44). Demons can influence and possess human beings (Luke 6:17-18; 22:3; Acts 5:16). As the world turns further away from God, we will see more examples of Satan and his demons using yielding human beings as instruments of their crafty work. At Christ’s return, Satan will be banished and this evil influence eliminated (Revelation 20:1-3). Jesus Christ will teach human beings how to achieve genuine peace of mind (Isaiah 26:3). Muhammad died in 632 AD and his followers disagreed over the next Caliph (leader of Islam). Believers in a Muhammadan dynasty chose his cousin and son-in-law, Ali, who was eventually killed. Ali’s followers, feeling betrayed, separated from the majority (Sunnis) and called themselves, Party of Ali or Shiat Ali—thus the name Shiites (Time, September 16, 2009). The current Syrian war is fueling a proxy war between major Sunni and Shiite powers across the Middle East. “A prominent Sunni Muslim cleric influential in the Syrian uprising has issued a fatwa, or religious decree, calling on Muslims around the world to help Syrian rebels… labeling Hezbollah and Iran, which support the Syrian government, enemies of Islam….” And “… the mostly Sunni rebels battle a government backed by Shiite Iran and Hezbollah” (New York Times, June 1, 2013). Iraq is seeing a rise in Sunni versus Shiite violence, prompting many in Iraq to volunteer in the fight for Syria (New York Times, June 1, 2013). Jesus warned that in the “last days” there would be “wars and rumors of wars” and “nation will rise against nation…” (Matthew 24:6-7). The Greek word for nation is “ethnos”—denoting a tribe or ethnic group. As we approach the end of the age, ethnic and religious strife will play a greater role in geopolitics. This will precede Christ’s return and the establishment of God’s true religion and government on the earth! For more information on this vital topic, read our booklet The Middle East in Prophecy.
